About

Thanks to the generosity of Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church (MAPC) and their commitment to partnering with the global church we will spend the upcoming year in Zambia as the third Global Ministry Fellows.  While in Zambia we will partner with Theological Education by Extension Zambia (TEEZ); a Zambian organization seeking to keep up with the incredible growth the church in the Global South has experienced in recent years. As a response to this growth, TEEZ facilitates theological training forums throughout Zambia for indigenous church leaders.  Throughout the year we both will participate in these forums teaching on various topics such as worship, pastoral counseling, theology etc.  Before returning to MAPC, we will spend ten weeks traveling throughout the Global South continuing to learn about the global church in different contexts and how God is at work in the world.  We will return to MAPC on December 1, 2010 where we will join the pastoral staff and share and interpret our experience with the people at MAPC.  The fellowship concludes on May 31, 2011.

We both graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary in May 2009 and were ordained as ministers in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in June 2009.  We are excited for the Global Ministry Fellowship because we feel God’s call to participate in God’s mission, ministry and activity in the Global South.  We anticipate that this opportunity will give us profound insight and will forever shape us as future Ministers of the Word and Sacrament who are committed to an ecclesiology of the global church.  This experience will allow us, upon our return, to equip Christians in the United States to connect with, serve, and enter into mutual relationships of love and encouragement with Christians not only in Zambia, but throughout the Global South.  We expect to be changed by this experience; in our faith and lives, the way we see God at work in the world, and the unique and specific way God has called us to serve.

  1. Hi,

I found your blog when searching for information on the town Nakonde. I am a missionary also and live in Livingstone most of the year (I am in the USA right now). I am going to be importing a vehicle in March and looks like I will be stuck in Nakonde for a few days waiting for it to clear. Do you know if there are any campgrounds or hostels in that town? I’ve never been through there so I’m unfamiliar with the area. Please let me know. Any information can help greatly!

    Blessings,
    Laura

    • Hi Laura,

I hope you are doing well and that things go smoothly with importing your car. We stayed in Nakonde for a week in October. We stayed at Brooks Guesthouse which was nice, clean, and quiet. It is located close to town but it is just off the main road so it is nice and quiet. The owners are members of the United Church of Zambia church in Nakonde. We taught at their church this fall and the owners and staff were very friendly. They probably don’t have a website but I have the cell for one of the staff who does the booking, her name is Christine. and her number is 0978547453. Just give her a call and should be able to arrange a room. I don’t know how much we paid but the cost should be fairly low. Let me know if you have any more questions.

  2. Erin Rafferty told me about you when we were in Nanjing, China in June/July, and I saw your link on their blog. I see Nancy Collins also, a mutual friend. Loved your Zambia photos! (And a bit envious that you saw so many lions in So. Luangwa!) We’ve been to Zambia many times as our daughter lives in Lusaka and is married to a native of Chipata. When you return to MAPC, it would be good to meet you in person. We’re in NJ, not too far.
